ANH LEIA SENATE GOWN

Dress:              The Hooded white gown
Plain and simply T-Shaped dress made from a white poly (noticeable sheer in the movie - but doesn't have to be for modesty reasons.

The dress should have a somewhat high, close-fitting collar.

It should have slits up each side of the dress (to the knee or slightly below the knee).

The sleeves should either have no seams or be raglan sleeves; they also flare out the end.

Raglan: Having or being a sleeve that extends in one piece to the neckline of the garment, with slanted seams from the armhole to the neck.

The hood is open in the back, not closed and pointy.

There should not be a seam up the center front of the dress.

Hair:

The buns are twisted into the familiar shape, not braided. Since the hair is so distinctive for this costume, the hair should be in the correct style for formal/canon costumes.  The buns are really needed to make Princess Leia look her best.  Hair color doesn't matter, as long as you have the buns   A wig or extensions are sometimes very useful for making these, I use a wig and it stays on great.

Boots:

The boots should be mostly plain white leather or a suitable substitute. Nylon and/or other fabric boots should not be suitable.

Very Simple.  White boots preferably flat soled.  The real ones have a black sole, but as long as you aren't wearing 6" spike heels with it, you should be

                fine

Belt:

     - This is a VERY important part, getting a gold belt from the store doesn't work here.  The belt has a slight 'V' shape and 7 metal metal pieces on it.

This is very   easy to make and can be done with white leather (either thin or belt grade), thin aluminum sheeting, and some 3/4" - 1" chrome round buttons.

Photos:

The lack of sleeve seams can be seen in the following photos, they also show the collar and hood attachment details.

Slits up the sides of the dress are shown in the following photos, they also show the shape of the sleeves, with the full ends.

HOTH LEIA

There are a couple of variations for this costume. Leia wore it with two hairstyles and she had a vest and gloves that were removed. She also had a comm device on the sleeve of the jumpsuit that was removed on Bespin.

BESPIN LEIA

1. Tunic top

Raisin/nutmeg/burgundy color.  The tunic top falls to mid-thigh.  The sleeves are fitted and have a point at the hand.

2.  Pants

Color matches top.  Loose and like harem pants, but with less fullness at the ankles.

3.  Belt

Matches top and pants.  A diamond-shaped central portion that is stiffened (so it does not fold upon itself).

4.  Cape

Off-white chiffon with embroidered pattern in circles and geometric design which are broad at the base and taper as the approach the "yoke".  There are five repetitions of this pattern around the cape.  Should be embroidered or have the appearance of such.   An alternative to embroidery, can be  achieved by a good reproduction of the embroidery pattern  with paint.  Should be lined in raisin/nutmeg chiffon/georgette type material.

The yoke is in the same off-white chiffon and is quilted.  There is a point in the back.  Trimmed in copper thread along the edges.  There is a high collar.  It is also lined in the raisin/nutmeg color.

5.  Shoes

Ballet or flats dyed to match the tunic

6.  Hairstyle

Single bun with two loops of braided hair originating and ending at the bun.

CEREMONIAL LEIA

1. Dress: Simple, sleeveless dress, with a jewel neckline.
There are two layers; the bottom is a solid white, something that is flowy. The top is see thru fabric in white. Both the base fabric and the overlay

fabric   should be matte, not shiny or sparkly.

        Bodice:

The bodice has a scoop neck and an inverted V in the center. The base dress is sleeveless.

Sleeves: Are attached at the neckline, and just under the bust. They fall to the floor and are left open (not incasing the arm).
They should go over the shoulder enough that the shoulder is covered, and can go all the way across the back. This detail is hard to see in the

movie.  The sleeves cover the front of the bodice (either at the inverted V or with a slight overlap that creates a fold in  the  fabric). They are

not  attached in the back, they fall freely.  They are not attached as a complete sleeve under the arm at all. They are very  long and flow down the

      length of the dress

    Skirt:

The skirt is an a-line dress. The dress does have a train, but this detail was never seen in the film.

2. Belt: The ANH belt, painted silver.

3. Shoes: Silver.
These you don’t see in the movie. There are some photos where Carrie is wearing silver pumps.  An alternative to the pumps, are fine as long

they  resemble the shoe and are  a basic silver painted shoe, similar in style but without the heel .

4.Necklace: Made of large, silver, square beads, with a indentation in each square.
Bracelet (optional): There's  silver cuff-style bracelet with a similar indentation is worn on the right wrist.

5. Hair: A big braided bun, and a single braid down the back.
Use your hair or buy a wig or several extensions.

The Bracelet should be optional, as it is barely seen. The necklace should be required for Formal/Canon status. The correct dress style and fabric should also be required for Formal/Canon status.

The following are reference photos:

Overall look of the dress.

Bodice detail:

Scoop neckline and inverted V bodice. The silver belt with the metal pieces is also clearly seen here. The white Senatorial/ANH dress belt is not acceptable.

Fold in fabric caused by overlap in sheer overlay fabric.

Sleeve/Wing Detail:

Sleeve material does not extend past the shoulders.

Sleeves are not attached to the back of the dress, they hang freely.

The sleeves are not closed/attached under the arm.

Necklace/bracelet/hair detail:

The square shapes have a slight crimp or wave in them. They fit close to the neck.

The necklace is the same in the back as the front.

The bracelet is visible in these photos. It has a design similar to the necklace.
